no, a good budget card for Doom 3 would be a 5900xt, don't go with ATI yet, since they're probably never gonna fix the incompability issue with some boards, and about the drivers... well, no1 has proven that they're improved... |

I'm talking about HL2. NOT Doom 3. |

and im tlakin about BOTH! overall i would chose a 5900xt over a 9800pro cuz there r just too many problems with ATI cards and also if i was on a budget cuz the xt is cheaper |

Okay here is the scoop......anything over an GF4 FX 5700 (256mb) or ATI 9700 is just fluff...you may have bragging rights for the best specs but unless you have one super fine monitor your not going to be able to tell the difference on the games. There are such small diferences in thoses cards only someone doing benchmarks could really tell.
Not only that, but if you have a really good card and Don't have the CPU and Ram to to match you won't get the perfomance anyway. A gamming machine has to be set up with the right stuff to be a really good one. I recommend MSI since they have the best record for reliablility an award winning performance...but stay away from OEM's, the good ones have a 2 year or more warranty, some of the OEM'S are secondary market and do not perform. We build several hundred machines a year....A lot of them Gamming Machines and Always Use MSI Boards. |

there is more to a card than just core/ram speed how else would you explain the 6800 ultra getting 3 times the score of a 5700 |
