nwo is right. If you have a 6800 ultra in one machine and am fx5700 NU in another identical machine you will be able to play doom 3 on high detail at a good 50-60 fps. The fx5700, however, will give you a slideshow framerate around 5 and will not be playable. I'd say that's more than an undetectable difference.

it's like saying an athlon64 and p4 clocked at 2ghz run the same. they most definitely do not.

btw i'd also recommend getting a 6800. The other cards just aren't worth it anymore due to the huge increase in performance with the current generation

pay for performance

Your paying almost three times more for a good 6800 than the fx 5700 and to be honest I've never had the framrate problem mentioned with the 5700. I would be curious as to where you bought the card and whether it was OEM or not
I have no doubt that the 6800 is a high performer but for the price difference you should expect a lot more, after all I do believe that at the start of this thread the guy didn't want to spend a fortune. Here is a web site you might want to check out about video cards.

I would recommend reading some reviews of the card. For the price you DO get a lot more performance...which is why one would own an aftermarket graphics card in the first price. Would you be happy using an old geforce 256? Doom 3 was built on the feature set of the 256, but there is no way it's fast enough. Same goes for the 5700.

Remember that graphics processing is inherently parallel. This means that processor speed is not very important. What is important is the architecture model and how effecient it is.

Bring down the console in doom 3 and type "timedemo demo1" while running "ultra high" quality settings at 1600x1200 and tell us the average framerate it tells you at the end. Somehow i doubt it will be in the 60's. i only pulled 28 at much lower settings on my retail 5900 ultra.
