    19'' Monitor

Ive been looking at 19'' Monitors for a while now, and have come to a decision, I have around $550 (Canadian NOT American!) and its either between a Samsung Syncmaster flat 19'', or a LG Flatron F900B (the LG is around 350 Canadia, and the Samsung = around 320 Canadian) Suggestions please

    p.s - I also have 512 ddram pc 2100 no-name brand junk, should i spend the extra money ( say, 250ish ) To Mushkin 512MB PC3200 222 - Black Hi Perf Level II
*i also have an ASUS A7N8X , in the manual it says it can support up to 3gb non-ecc pc 3200/2700/2100/1600. (whats "non-ECC" mean) and will i notice a difference in games ? or should i not bother and jus save some more money and in time buy a nice video card.

I'd go with the Samsung, but have you looked at NEC/Mitsubishi? The next flame that will burn my cash is a 17" NEC flat CRT, their 19" are great, around $200 for one.

non-ecc is a type of error checking for RAM. To be honost, I don't see much difference. PC 3200 (400mhz) is faster than PC 2100, but make sure your mobo suports it. You could go to crucial.com and get a 512mb, PC3200 stick for around $80 (american) RAM helps the speed a bit, but it's main purpose is to help you run more things at one time.

About the monitor, I just bout a Viewsonic A91f+ 19 in monitor for $220 (american) so yeah. It's really nice too.

I would definitely go with a Samsung (and that's what I'm planing to do if my mom ever decides to buy me a monitor)

the pc3200 ram might add a slight increase in performance....that is, as long as the motherboard will actually run it at pc3200 speeds....it might depend on the fsb of the cpu.

I think I would hold off on the ram right now...a better vid card would make a lot more difference....the ram might make 5% difference at most (a guess)

non-ecc is non "error correction circuitry"....

probably 95% of us have non-ecc ram.

ECC is usually used in servers

you shouldnt need ecc in your comp

I can tell you about the RAM. I was running 1 gig of PC2100 and I was always maxing it out. I run alot of progs at once. I upgraded to 4 512MB Corsair PC3200 and I usually use around 1 gig. In fact Ive considered selling one of my sticks because Ive never used all 2 gig. Were I still running the 2100 I have no doubt that I would chew it all up. The performance increase is slight however. I personally dont think you will notice it until you get into higher RAM consumption situations. I can say that my high end games such as Far Cry run alot smoother. but whatever....hope I helped more than confused

As far as the monitor goes, You can't go wrong with Viewsonic. I have their P95F (black), and I love it. It only costs like $250 at ebuyer.com, and its well worth it. I can't stand looking at my old 17" shadowmask CRT after using this.

About the ram, I just upgraded to a gig of Kingmax ram, and I could tell a difference. From 512 to 1024 there is a difference. If I were you I would get new ram.

I dont know if you are just bent of flat panels but if your not you can get a really good 21 inch Trinitron CRT for around $130US. If you did that you could get a great monitor that looks better than a flat panel and more RAM...

well if the motherboard allows to run the ram at pc3200 then it would make better sense....but not all motherboards allow to run the cpu fsb and ram at different speeds.

(i dont think he has said what cpu it is yet)

Thanks for all the replys! Helped alot, btw my cpu is a 2400+ Athlon xp.
But so far in the mobo manual the thing says it will run 3200 so im guessin it'll work...but i guess ill do that some other time when ram goes on sale or something!

The only thing that really holds me back on a Nec, or viewsonic is the horrible reviews on websites. I dont know about the actual stores givin' proper reviews, since they might have to say somethin positive about them, but customers say that Nec/misitibishi, and Viewsonic either dont work proper, or very common break. So thats throws me off them completly, but ive heard real good stuff about the Samsung (my friend has one, very nice) and the LG Flatron. So i still dont know what to do but i guess ill save around 250 for that ram, and do that some other time! now i have more to buy a decent video card (minus the one ill sell in my computer right now!)

I don't know what you have heard, but I've used Samsung and Viewsonic, and I prefer Viewsonic. The Viewsonic comes with a nice Ultrabright feature, where you can push a singel button and it jumps up in brightness level. There are three different levels of brightness, all good for different thngs. Normal is for text (it tends to get blurry if the brightness is high) 3X is for gaming (it really makes it look a lot better), and 4x is for movies/videos (almost overkill for me)

It's your money, but I can vouche for ViewSonic, they make some very nice monitors.

there are tons of them on here. The one I bought 3 days ago I got for $130US. The guy I bought them from had 50 of them. Bidding may be higher or lower in another bid! And they are all trinitrons...Some are Sony. If its a refurb they have to tell you.

i have the samsung 955 and its awesome

as far as ram i think its better to run in sync with the cpu bus so a video card would be the better idea...unless you were to run both for a gigabyte....but even then i would still choose the video card...well what is your card right now
