| Geforce FX5900 XT or 6800?
Is there a significant difference between these two cards? The 6800 is £100 more than the 5900 and, not knowing much about computers, I can't see a real difference between the two. |

The 6800 runs DirectX 9, rather than the DirectX 8 that the 5900 runs. I also believe the 6800 has more pipelines - 12 vs 8, although I'm not sure. |

hmmm... what brands are you looking at, here in the US the difference is about $100 so the difference is two times less than in G.B. Yes, there is a significant difference both in preformance and features between the two cards... once you specify which brands you're looking at, I can give you more info.... |

they're both DX9 cards, and the 6800 does have 4 more pipes compared to the 5900xt and if you get lucky... the other 4 pipelines can get hacked/unlocked, making it have twice the number of pipes compared to the 5900xt |

Then why does this article have the 5900 listed as DX8.1? Scroll down and you will see... |

it's a typo...my 5900 ultra is dx9. This was one of the major things about the FX series where nvidia was trying to improve over the 4 series and that was the blunder of not including dx8 with all their cards. So in the fx series they included dx9 on all of the fx cards.
BTW i would get the 6800 If you can't afford it, wait for the 6600 |

Anyway I just bought the FX 5900XT and it's working good for me. If I had the money though, I would have bought the 6800. |

That's what I thought at first, before reading that. Thanks for the reaffirmation. |

NWO is correct All Nividia FX cards are DX9.
In my opinion the 6800 is worth the extra money..... But then again, it's not my money. |
