did you even have to ask? I don't care if that 9800PRO has 512MB RAM, the 6800 is still gonna kick its a$$!

I wish I could find the link to the review...they took the game which consumed the most graphics memory - Nascar 2004 & it never went over 64mb. Now Doom3 may need more than Nascar, but I doubt it - as far as I have seen there aren't even any outdoor scenes with it. I think the vid card RAM race is pretty clearly just another way for vid card Mfrs to get in your wallet.

A 256mb card comes in handy with games like Doom 3 and Far Cry. Its worthless on anything less than a 9800/5950.
The 6800 will be better than the 9800, especially in shader heavy games.

okay lets make it clear (from my view) haha.
I would only go for the RAM of the graphics card if the game i'm going for has intense textures.
Games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and probably future 3D games would need good ram.
The other more important thing to consider is the PIPELINES.
If u notice, 12 pipelines (x800 pro) can never win 16 pipelines (x800xt) graphics card even with more ram in the graphics card. pipeline = the main thing i would look out for if going for the better graphics card.
if u are stuck between 128 and 256 of the same specs, always go for the higher one unless you have a budget to account for.

256MB graphics card with 256bit bit architecture will be better than 256mb with 128bit architecture . here also , the core speed as well as memory speeds have to be considered before buying ( according to my old friend Filipino ) .

this is to confusing. i have been researching this for 2 months. there are literally hundreds of cards out there. It should be as simple as buying an xbox. One person says 6800 is badass and another says that 128mb cannot compete with 256. Who really knows what they are talking about???

I have a thread on this subject. Most people seem to be saying that 128 is enough for today's games, but not tomorrows...
