| Problem with GeForce 6800 GT...
Hey guys. I got my PNY GeForce 6800 GT a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed to work fine until a few days ago... When I try to play games in general, the ingame textures, and just about anything my card gernates seems to be glitchy with little grey dots flickering all around my screen... Then, after a few minutes of playing with this glitchy madness, my computer would freeze with nothing but the image of what I saw last... When I reboot my computer after the crash, I get a Windows error saying there was a hardware faliure and that my video card could be the problem. At first, I thought it was the temperature problem, but I checked my CPU and mobo temperature and it seemed to be around 30~40C at all times. My GeForce was around 65C, but I've heard that this card runs pretty hot and that kind of temperature is pretty normal for it. I have no idea what is the problem with my computer and I can't believe I'm not able to use this card to the fullest, or play games at all... Any help would be appriciated. Thanks in advance.
My Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz - RETAIL
PNY GeForce 6800 GT 256MB AGP 8X
1Gig Corsair XMS DDR400 RAM
A cheap 400watt CompUSA powersupply
P.S. Some people have been telling me that my cheap powersupply could be the problem, but could an insufficient power supply really cause a video card to generate "glitchy textures" and all those flickering grey dots in games? The video card also seems to be the problem with the freezing of my computer... |

The thing is, I don't want to buy an expensive power supply only to find that there is a problem with my video card too... T.T |

A PSU going bad can generate lockups, slowness, intermittent problems, and overheating. When a PSU shorts out, it can be a disaster for your system.
Try a more expensive PSU in your system that has a decent reputation on the market. Your PSU could very well be the problem of all your woes.
In my case, with my nVidia card, I had to flash my motherboard BIOS before it would work (this being after I tried everything else). My computer always crashed and rebooted or just froze when I played games, but so far they are running decently... I do have a cheap PSU in mine (Ive been meaning to upgrade for a long time.) |
