if your budget is bellow $200 go with ati 9800 pro
if your budget is $350 higher then go with GeForce 6800 GT

i think that the 5900 is better then the 9800 pro it is alot more stable when it comes to antianalysing ( the fps sec dont dramaticly drop off when it is enabled) also it can be over clocked some thing major i have go my card getting scores of way over 6 k in 3d mark 03. thsi is the card i use look at the reviews http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...170-048&depa=0

the 5900 can be overclocked easy. nvidia gives you the software to do it on there driver disk.

9800pro is better than a 5900xt and about the same as a 5900 i think. don't forget, you can overclock the 9800 as well (use atitool).
if your budget is around $200, i'd say 9800pro now or 6600GT AGP if you can wait a couple monthsAthlon 64 x2 3800+/2gb/asrock 939dual-sata2/gf6200/audigy2 zs plat/sonata + Asus V6J + Lenovo Ideapad U330

Take a look at this: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=1955&p=22
XT/SE on the Nvidia side is not even half as bad as SE on the ATI side.

Wow much confusion in this thread.
For starters, the 9800Pro is better than a 5900XT.
XT on an NVIDIA card means its a downclocked version. XT on an ATI card means in an OVERCLOCKED version.
Now the reason you don't see any 5900s being sold anymore, just 5900XTs and 5900SEs is because that even though the 5900 chip was downclocked(The XT and SE versions), it could still run *ALMOST* as fast as the 5900 that were not downclocked. Thus people ended up buing the 5900XTs over the 5900 causing NVIDIA to stop producing the 5900.
You can overclock BOTH NVIDIA and ATI cards.
And another comment I would like to make is that a 6800 would be a better buy than a 5900XT or a 9800Pro.
