    slow 2d performance on ti4200

    hi ..

lately, i've notived that the 2d performance on my win98se, 1gh athlon, 512 ram, has been on the decline..

right now for instance i have my firefox browser in which i am writing this, flash, winamp playing, msn , pretty normal stuff..

and the 2d performance is sucky at best, if for instance, i drag winamp around the screen, it leaves an ugly trail behind it, it get refreshed out, but still..i dont remember it doing that when i first installed the ti4200...

    any ideas?

    thanks ..

It sounds like your processor is doing most of the work, rather than the video card performing hardware calculations. How long has it been since you upgraded your video card drivers?

I would look into that first, and if you're up to date and it still persists let us know.

The best way to fix slow performance in Win 98 is a reformat. If you don't have too much important stuff to back up. Do it.

well, my drivers for the ti4200 are 61.76 -the latest- and directx 8.1 ,
i havent gone to 9.x because i read somewhere that my video card doesnt benefit from directx 9 and so on ..

i just reformated and reinstalled last night..
and i just noticed that the letters on the menus of flash mx where gone...blank space with underscore or some small lines in some of them..

Strange. But that still looks like a software problem.

I would update your Direct X version to 9.0C. It won't take too much downloading, and I can imagine that the drivers are trying to call on DX9 features that DX8.1 doesn't have

could it have something to do with virtual memory ???

it seems like if the cpu were doing most of the work,

    thanks for your patience..

nVidia 6x.xx series drivers require DirectX 9 for proper operation. Also, have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard?

yes i have, my mobo it's an oldie..

i just looked at the thing and it says m7vka, hahaaa
it's not even made anymore..let alone have updated drivers

and about the nvidia drivers...i went back to 45.23 just to see what would happen, and it's behaving the same way ...soo...i am not so sure the drivers are the problem ,,,or solution.
