Im in need of advice as to what graphics card i should upgrade too i have the Geforce 4 128MB MX 440 with agp 8X but it seems this isnt too great a card and im hoping to get half life 2 whenever they bring it out.I know itl run half life 2 but im upgrading my ram to 1 gig ddr and really dont want the game ruined by jumping or the like after spending the cash on memory.I really know so little about these cards and if it will run the game fine then id like to know that too but i will need to upgrade it soon anyhow as from what i see on the net it seems to be the really lowest end of cards nowadays, so any advice on what a standard good card nowadays is thats a good step up and a little future proof will be appreciated thanks alot ... |

You need to post a price range.... Some people come looking for a $100 card which won't buy you anything decent, while others are willing to spend what it takes to get the best.
If you're willing to spend, I'd also suggest the 6800GT which is around $400.
Next step down would be a 6800 which is $280-300+.
Next step down would be a 9800pro at ~ $200.
I can't really recommend buying anything lower at the moment, but there are more solutions. |

It's not a very good card anymore, but if that is all you have to work with that's about the best you can get for that price in GB. |

true true. which is why i got my 6800.. Hoping it'll last me for the next 2-3 years..
Well, if you're gonna be waiting for a while, why not get the 6600 GT... I heard that it's betta than the 9800XT, and is cheaper than it by around $100.. |

its 155 pounds here in the uk (i live here too) for the 6600 gt but im not sure if its agp coz the only one i've seen is pci-express. i'd wait to be honest tho coz half life 2 will probably run ok on your card at the mo, it doesn't need a gr8 card and if you wait and get a 6800 u'll notice the difference more
