Video card question
Just a quick question:
I was looking at the hardware requirements for an upcoming game I want to play.
Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: 2 GHz or greater
RAM: 1 GB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128 MB or more of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware
I am running a Geforce4 ti4200 128MB. My question is: Does this card have the required "pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware" to play this game or would I need a newer card?

Think I found the answer to my question:
The Geforce Ti4200 is DirectX8 and only supports Vertex Shader 1.1 spec or what ever suits your hardware-1.1,1.2,1.3,,or1.4.Unlike DirectX9 which supports 2.0 Vertex Shader. Running DirectX9 drivers on a DirectX8 supported GPU will not help the visual treats.
So I am not running a directX 9 Compliant card and should probably upgrade if I want to enjoy all the eye candy?

Your card supports the following:
• API support
° Complete DirectX® support, including
DirectX 8.1
° Full OpenGL® 1.3 support
So you could still most likely play the game but won't see different shaders and lights supported in Direct x 9...

Yea, I think that's right, although you can play DX9 games, you won't enjoy any eye candy, since you will probably have to play the game at lowest settings and resolution. By the way... what game is that?

Yeah, Eq2 is a taxing game. You will want one of the best graphics cards ya can buy and the 6800 is actually kind of cheap at 275ish-325ish range on newegg. Compared to x800pro, 6800GT, X800pro plat and the 6800ultra, its almost as awesome and way back in price.
Somone should declare NWO75200 the official techimo poster boy for 6800s. He seems to convince everyone to buy one, me included lol. Thanks again NWO, almost payed as much for a 9800 pro lol.The Master of Puppets

That 6800LE looks very juicy, and anyone who buys it would be tempted to turn it into a real 6800GT

here you can see a comparison of the 7850 vs GTX 570 (GTX 560 Ti 448 is reduced spec 570, so the 448 Core would be close to the 7850 in performance, if not just behind it a hair): AnandTech |...
