| Overclocking ATI Radeon 9200SE
I have a Joytech Apollo Devil Monster 3 ATI Radeon 128MB 9200SE. I downloaded the latest powerstrip and CATALYST. I raised the engine core clock and memory clock and few mhz and the benchmark showed a increase of 1 FPS. I later raise it like 15 mhz to test it and I saw DRAMATIC (good not bad) results. I am looking for better cooling. I don't know whether to just put a fan on the stock heatsink, remove the heatsink and put just the fan, or just leave the heatsink. I wouldn't dare run a game with the graphics card overclocked until I have reassurance that my gpu won't look like a s'more when I'm done.
System Spec:
Sony Vaio PCV-RX550
Intel Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz
80 GB Hard Drive
256 MB Memory (Planning to upgrade to 512)
128 MB graphics

a heatsink with a good fan is the best solution this side of water cooling. do some experimenting, try just adding a fan to the stock heat sink, or you could go all out and buy a new one from vantec, Thermaltake, etc. question: is the stock heat sink screwed on or glued on? if its not screwed on, your screwed if you want to remove it

I think its glue and if you notice it has two little plastic fasteners. By the way, you're my hero. That was like the fastest I've ever received a reply. This may seem like a stupid question but where do I plug the fan into? I am actually seriously considering fashioning some ramsinks from and old processor sink. *sob* I love you guys! You're the only people who understand me!! |

yeah, when its fastened the only thing to do is put it in the freezer for an hour and then try to pop it off. if done incorrectly, you'll rip the VPU out
plugging in fans depend on what type of connector it has. some fans use the 4 pin molex connector like a hard drive or CD burner use. Others use 3pin ones like the fan for your CPU cooler. still others use mini 3/2 pin ones built on to the vide card itself. yours lacks this I believe.
its usually easier to just buy ramsinks, but if you want to be a mod maniac, go for it dude! |
