A friend asks: Should he upgrade for the lastest games. Hes running a 9600pro and 1024mb and 3.2ghz. He asks because he wants to play Everquest and he dosent know if the game can run for him on high quaility and still run fast. If i do need to upgrade should he overclock with good cooling or shoot for the 9800pro??

havent played Everquest, so I'm clueless on this one. Generally speaking, even overclocking wont let the 9600 perform close to the 9800. if he's that concerned about image quality, its upgrade time.

well, most would say that the 9800 pro is the least requirement to play the latest games.. |

But he can run halo and counter strike perfect. And he knows that it cant run doom 3 or half life 2. But should he upgrade now or wait to till like half life 2 come out or is he fine till then? Because he will upgrade now to the 9700pro but if he waits till half-life 2 and get the 9800pro? so should he upgrade now or wait??

Dude... I run EVERQUEST on an AMD 2600 machine with a Ti4200 card FLAWLESSLY.
I'd say your friend is more than ok to play it. |

i would not make such a small jump in cards, if her were to upgrade now i would go with atleast a regular 6800, HL2 should run a a 9600 Pro pretty well, it was top of the line when it was supposed to come out
if price is a concern i would wait for the AGP 6600 GT, same price as a 9800 Pro, with much better performance

But he wants to know if the upgrade is nessary or should he buy a new card for games already alot like star wars battlefront, star wars galxies or ff11, everquest battlefield 1942. basically he just got the system and he wants to know if the system can handle the games mentioned ok. |

It should be able to handle those games pretty decently.
Kinda like what Headband said. If he really wants to upgrade to a NICER card that's a lot faster, he should wait until the AGP Version of the Geforce 6600GT comes out and skip the 9800. |
