Dual Monitors

Ok, I know how to run dual monitors off my laptop...just plug my flat panel into it and voila! My question is, can i reverse this and have dual panels using my desktop computer, flat panel, and just the laptop lcd for display. thanks in advance

as far as i know (someone may prove me right or wrong), this is impossible unless you have and input on your laptop. i guess it all depends on your specific laptop.

yeah thats right...i think there have been a few people who took apart dead laptops and solderd the internal lcd connector to a vga cable but its pretty complicated and would break the laptop

if you do have a tv tuner you could use the svideo out on the decktop to the svideo in on the laptop but the quality and resolution would be horrible

No that's not possible - simply because laptop internal displays do not even use a VGA signal. They use a fully digital signal, which is also not compatible with the digital signal found on a DVI connector. Also, they aren't "multisync" capable and need a very exact single timing, regardless of the graphics mode you display.

Thus you'd basically need to build your own graphics card, and customize its BIOS to output the exact data format and timing as required by this particular panel.

wait..yes it is. don't give up hope. you hook your laptop up over the network and run a program, and you are able to use the screan on your laptop as just another screan. I forget where this is, but it is possible so don't give up hope yet. lol. If i come across it i'll post up the link but it is possible. You have to have your laptop actually hooked up to the network and running this program, but once you have it going, it's just like a second monitor . Sorry i don't know where the program is. Good luck finding it.

later

That way you're not using it as a monitor, you're using it as a terminal - the difference is that the machine running the programs isn't drawing the image itself. The "X Window" system used by Linux has been allowing that for ages.

Performance problems lie in bitmap graphics, video replay, and everything 3D or otherwise realtime.
