I needed a Graphics video card upgrade. After giving my specs to ATI I asked for a plug and plag card 9x compatible graphics card to run a flight sim with some 3D. They said use the 9600XT. I have been trying to get the ATI 9600XT card to post for awhile now with help from members here (thanks) with no luck so far.
I have a Pentium 4 @2.4 Ghz and 224mb sdram and a 250w psu while ATI says is enough to run the card.
The mobo is a older P4VMM2ver3.2 from ECS. It has 2 pci and 1 agp slot. ATI has no clue why it wont work, the mobo mfg says the P4VMM2 will only run a true 4x AGP card and thats it. Is this true??? Can it be true? If so what now.....
ATI says its 4x/8x cards will revert to 4X automaticly, I really dont have any open PCI slots to go to a pci card.
I have cleared the cmos and disabled the on board savage ddr video via the bios set up. Still no go. Any input????? HELP IM DROWNING |

Once the card is installed, then boot up you can add the drivers. If the card is in it wont boot. They said it should boot without doing a thing. Sound correct??? |

yep thats the recommended way.
you've probably checked this already, but make sure the card is properly seated in the slot.
you could try installing the card drivers..........without the card......... then try rebooting with the card in place.....
also.....and possibly do this first............update your mobo chipset drivers.......... http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2 ypu'll get them here.
your mobo has the via pvm266a chipset. |

His mobo wont even post, guys; so video drivers are not the issue here.
You might need more power for it. To the best of my knowledge, you should have at least a 350W power supply for the 9600XT.

whatever card you used before, onboard or otherwise. you will need to uninstall the drivers.
i'd download and back up a copy of them, just in case you need then again......... |

My guess would be to look at the power supply as well. 250w is pretty low, especially if it's some cheapo brand powersupply. |

250 is low, but wouldn't it boot and run into problems when you ran a high demand program? |
