| Looking For VGA Cable Connection (With Pics!)
I have a CTX 19" monitor model VL950, and I broke a third pin recently, which finally stopped the signal from going through, apparently.
I contacted CTX and they said they don't sell parts directly like that.
I figure it would be a real waste to buy a whole new monitor when all I need is a connector piece (pictured below). I hate that they can't just make it so that I can buy a new VGA cable.
Could anyone point towards any places I might find such a piece that will have a regular VGA cable on the other end?

I am eternally grateful! |

if you know what you are doing, get a vga extension lead from a pc shop, and splice the two. or get a new 15 pin d plug from an electronics parts supplier and attach that. www.maplin.co.uk would have both |

on the other hand, if you don't know what you are doing, be aware that crt monitors can store a lethal electrical charge for months after they are switched off. you have been warned!! |

Thanks for the tip, paul9. Do both methods (or is it a single method) involve splicing? I am not good with that - I was trying to a solution that was more of plug-in replacement so I can make it work.
(And thank you for the tip about the voltage - I am taking precausions!) |

using the extension lead, you would have to splice, solder, and reinsulate the wires. using a new d plug, would involve some fiddly sodering. you also need to identify which wires go to which pins, using a multimeter, with either method |

alternatively you could try find an authorized ctx repair ctr and they could order the part for you. last resort would be to find someone selling the same crt dirt cheap (thru ebay, web sites, etc) and buying it outright.
frankly, the price of displays being so cheap (both crt & lCD) nowadays, you might want to consider a new monitor altogether if the two forementioned options turn out to be more expensive than you bargained for. |
