Screen has gone white

My lovely 19 inch ADI crt monitor was fine one minute then the screen rapidly went pure white, just as though the brillance had been turned right up but more so resulting in a pure white screen. I've tried all the knobs and menu but can't fix it. I've turned it on and off but it's no good. The computer is OK as I've tried another monitor on it.

I'm resigned to buying a new monitor after Christmas now. This one was getting on for six years and used every day.

Anyone know what could be wrong?

Well maybe its a fault in the cable connecting it to the PC. Have you tryed using that same cable on the other montior that worked? And try plugging it in again.....Give it another try mate!

Sounds like a grid to cathode short in the picture tube.Sometimes it can be freed up by taking the plastic end of a screw driver and taping the center of the screen.A little force is sometimes neaded but use common sense about what to use.

It's nothing to do with cabling - with the computer disconected it is still white. The box saying that the video cable is not there is there but very washed out.

I'll try tapping the screen with a driver not too hard! In fact I've tried rapping the sides to see if that made any difference it didn't.

This kind of short overdrives the electron gun, your information will still be there but you cant see it.In a regular TV tube it will be just one of the colors that do this

I've tried gently hitting the screen with a rubber hammer but this makes no difference. Looks like a new monitor then.

You need hard plastic to jar the grid in the tube. The screen will take a good tap you have to use a little common sense here,it is very possible to free a short up this way ive done it several times.tap hard enough to get a metalic ring dead center of the screen while powered up and warm 15 minutes

tell you what try your knuckles first.knock as hard without hurting yourself that will tell you how hard to tap with the plastic end of a screw driver
