I just found out that my tv tuner (inside my pc) has a component video in (not s video)... has anyone tried feeding video (like from a console or dvd player) into their pc via something similar to this and had it successfully pop out onto the computer monitor?
I guess my underlying question is: Will it work? |

It will work perfectly fine.
Your Composite/S-video connections arent going to be any different than if you were watching TV through the coaxial connection on your computer.
I've had my xbox hooked up to my computer quite a bit without any issues.
I was working on a morrowind website at one point and hooked my xbox up to my computer to play/obtain screen captures for the site.

It'll work, but you won't be able to take advantage of the much higher vga resolution (almost hd-quality). |

Definately true... but if you're going to goto the expense of buying an adapter like that (especially when hes already got a tv tuner), you mide as well be PC gaming. |

Thanks for the tips so far guys!
JME... that vga converter looks promising except that it works only for the xbox. I'm afraid that when I get a new console in a year or two, it wont work with it.
VHockey... nice to know it works! =)
I was wondering though, what do you guys mean by it wont display at HD quality? How is this possible if I set my monitor beyond HD settings (i.e. 1280x1024)?
VH... in your experience, is it better to leave the monitor set at 1280x1024 or have it set to standart VGA resolutions (640x480)? |

Well, the signal is only of a TV resolution, therefore you wont be receiving anything better (HD) on the monitor. Your xbox is going to think its connected to a regular TV.
You can leave the monitor's resolution up higher. Whatever software you have for your TV tuner should allow you to resize the window. Just adjust it so that the picture quality / size ratio is good enough for you.
I normally just had a fairly full window at 1024x768 and it looked fine, but then again I was just playing morrowind, not a FPS, so seeing everything all the time wasnt that critical.

How do I make the xbox think that it's connected to an HD monitor and not just a regular tv? |
