| DVI Monitor with VGA Video Card
Ok, right now I have a video card with only a VGA port, but I want to purchace a DVI LCD. This is because i will be making another computer in 1-2 months which i want to use DVI with.
Would I be able to put http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...999-201&depa=0 on the new LCD and connect it to my VGA video card? If not, are there any other options?
Thanks |

That will not work. That's DVI (what the video card has) to VGA (what the monitor has).
You'd need VGA-to-DVI, which are EXPENSIVE compared to a $15 DVI-to-VGA adapter.

Newegg.com does have this one Quote:
Converts VGA port into LCD/ DVI port, works with most video cards (will not work with DVI-D ports)
Please check connection type, Male or Female, before selecting

I might have misunderstood but many monitors now come with either analog or digital inputs. You can switch between the two.
I have two 17" Viewsonic LCD monitors sitting side by side. One is connected digital and the other is connected analog. I would challenge anyone to tell me which is which by what's on the screen. Of course, just guessing you have an even chance of being right but I can see absolutely no difference.
I have read that when you're dealing with 19" and greater monitors you can see a difference but it'll be a long time before I actually find out. |

the only advantage i can tell from dvi is you dont have to constantly hit autoadjust to keep the screen properly adjusted. The signal in a VGA cable degrades and gets interference that changes from day to day causing the signal to desync overtime...dvi never has this problem as adjustments are nto necessarry.

However, I have yet to see a DVI-only LCD screen - all those I've seen do have an analog VGA input just as well. |
