Playing games on a laptop

Hi I have a widescreen laptop and I'm wondering how do I play normal games on it without it gettin all distorted? Their was an earlier post that said I had to mess around with some settings, but it wasn't specific enough, I'm completely new at this video card thing. I have an nVidia card...I think. Where are the settings? Thanks alot, and if it helps the game I want to play is Warcraft III.

I'm not positive, but you may be able to set the screen as you want it by right-clicking somewhere on the desktop, click Properties, Settings tab, and then adjusting the screen resolution.

I found a possible solution. It involves editing the registry (kinda scary if you've never done it before)
Quote:
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
Tested Resolution: 720p (1280x720)
Stretch: Noticeable
Method: Manual configuration

run > regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Blizzard Entertainment > Warcraft III > Video

Make below change in decimal format:

resheight = 720
reswidth = 1280
I found this information on HTPCnews forums here:

Hey thanks alot, but I have another quick question. If I edit only the thing it tells me to do, is their any chance of it messing up my computer? Its ok if it messes up the game I can always reinstall it, but it won't mess up the operating system or anything right?

jj52786,
I made it easier (and safer) for you to make this change in the registry.

All you have to do is open the zip attachment on my post, and run the "WC3_1280_270.reg" file inside. This will automatically import the settings into your registry, without having to worry about messing anything else up.

(If you feel worried about it, you can open the .REG file in notepad and see that it just applies the settings I posted above.)

If you need any help, let us know.

glad it worked out!

If you have any other games that you need to 'fix' for widescreen, you should click the link in my first post. It lists a couple hundred other games too!

have fun
