Toggle dual and single display?

Hi, I have recently started using a dual display setup and I have found that my computer performance is suffering. I am considering increasing the RAM, but until I can afford that, is there an easy way to switch between a single a dual monitor setup, some software perhaps? As it is, I would have to configure everything every time I enable the second monitor.

i think the solution here is to wait untill you increase your memory before running multiple desktops. i had performance issues with my old setup. i ended up getting a new card with dual output which has allowed me to use two screens without the extra memory
