Well... just by looking at the specs...
nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 500MHz
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 325MHz
----------
nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 1000MHz
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 256MB DDR 700MHz
----------
even though it has double the memory, the 128 is faster as well as the core GPU speed being faster...
I dont profess to know all the variables and how they make a difference, but Ive heard more isnt always better when compared with raw speed in graphics... |

The 6600GT obviously doesn't perform quite as well, but IMO there is not nearly enough of a difference to warrant an extra $150. I'd look at the soon to come X800XL if you are looking in that price range. |

My experience: I returned my BFG 6600GT ($249) and exchanged it for the BFG 6800 128MB ($284) - very glad I did. The pipes were unlockable, and yes, the AA and AF is much better with the 6800 due to the extra pipes. The 6600GT has 8, the 6800 has 12 and unlockable to 16 (using Riva Tuner on some cards).
However the price difference in my situation was less than $40, yours is much more and, unless you've got the money to blow, not really worth it IMO. That's a good price for the GT. |
