the 6200tc is about equal to a 9200...but it also takes up system ram
the 6200 is around a 9600 ProHey who turned sigs on?

February 17th, 2005, 08:04 PM #246800 is not such a good bang for the buck, it was but it's not anymore unless you can grab it for 250ish...

too bad it's PCI-e only though
It equals the performance of a 9700pro/9800 (vanilla)

February 18th, 2005, 01:16 AM #29I doubted that you have played any great hits on it decently like MOH:PA, NFSU2, FC, HL2, D3, UT2k4, it wouldn't run any of those games and many others at reasonable settings.

The experiment continues:
I have been running CODuty on an 1800mhz ATh OCed to about 1900 with 512M RAM and a Radeon 7000 64M. Needless to say, it was very "framey". Really bad. I replaced the 7000 with a 9600 Pro and the "framey"ness has gone away.

COD is a pc. of cake for a 9600pro
-

The plot thickens
The 9600 Pro was putting out pitiful frame rates, around 30-40 in Medal Of Honor. I checked the 9550 on my kid's PC (2.4 Celeron, 512M) and it was getting frame rates around 90 in COD. So, I swapped the cards. COD on the 9600 Pro gets about 100-110 in COD on the kid's PC and the 9550 on my computer gets about 40-45 in COD.
I noticed my machine uses 220M of memory just sitting still. I wonder if that is the problem.

Do you have the newest ATI drivers?
-
February 24th, 2005, 10:06 PM #34
Yes. They are both running the same drivers (Catalyst). I have noticed some errors pertaining to "low virtual memory". I upped the virtual memory and it helped a little.
One difference between the machines is that my machine (slow one) has onboard video but I am not using it.Last edited by Big_Daddy; February 24th, 2005 at 10:08 PM.

maybe you can take the video card from work and try it at home.....without getting fired.

February 24th, 2005, 11:05 PM #36hmmm... RAM very well could be the problem, and it most likely is the problem if you have less than 512MB on your PC...

I made some changes in the BIOS. I changed the AGP Aperture to 128M and basically turned off on board video by allocating no memory to it. The frame rates went up by a little bit. I also have much more memory available. The base memory with nothing loaded is now around 135M
Note: When I am playing my son in COD rather than the computer, the frame rates are higher.Last edited by Big_Daddy; February 25th, 2005 at 08:51 AM.

February 25th, 2005, 04:32 PM #38Weird... I wasn't asking how much memory you're using, I was asking how much RAM do you physically have put into the PC?

February 25th, 2005, 10:08 PM #40maybe because it's OCed? Just run it at stock speeds since 100MHz on any CPU will not make any kind of noticable difference in anything, so it can only do harm and no good.

here you can see a comparison of the 7850 vs GTX 570 (GTX 560 Ti 448 is reduced spec 570, so the 448 Core would be close to the 7850 in performance, if not just behind it a hair): AnandTech |...
