6800 is not such a good bang for the buck, it was but it's not anymore unless you can grab it for 250ish...

last time I checked (newegg a few seconds ago) they're all 128MB or 256MB, now, there is one card that's 64bit....

last time I ckecked, they're $50 more for the AGP version, there's over a $100 difference between a 6600GT PCI-e and a PCI-e 6800 though.... but this thread is AGP related, I think...

6600 vanilla is a good card too bad it's PCI-e only though It equals the performance of a 9700pro/9800 (vanilla)

actually, due to xtremely high clock speeds, the 6600GT is (sometimes) faster in less demanding games or low resolutions like 800x600

I doubted that you have played any great hits on it decently like MOH:PA, NFSU2, FC, HL2, D3, UT2k4, it wouldn't run any of those games and many others at reasonable settings.

    The experiment continues:

I have been running CODuty on an 1800mhz ATh OCed to about 1900 with 512M RAM and a Radeon 7000 64M. Needless to say, it was very "framey". Really bad. I replaced the 7000 with a 9600 Pro and the "framey"ness has gone away.

    The plot thickens

The 9600 Pro was putting out pitiful frame rates, around 30-40 in Medal Of Honor. I checked the 9550 on my kid's PC (2.4 Celeron, 512M) and it was getting frame rates around 90 in COD. So, I swapped the cards. COD on the 9600 Pro gets about 100-110 in COD on the kid's PC and the 9550 on my computer gets about 40-45 in COD.

I noticed my machine uses 220M of memory just sitting still. I wonder if that is the problem.

Yes. They are both running the same drivers (Catalyst). I have noticed some errors pertaining to "low virtual memory". I upped the virtual memory and it helped a little.

One difference between the machines is that my machine (slow one) has onboard video but I am not using it.

hmmm... RAM very well could be the problem, and it most likely is the problem if you have less than 512MB on your PC...

I made some changes in the BIOS. I changed the AGP Aperture to 128M and basically turned off on board video by allocating no memory to it. The frame rates went up by a little bit. I also have much more memory available. The base memory with nothing loaded is now around 135M

Note: When I am playing my son in COD rather than the computer, the frame rates are higher.

Weird... I wasn't asking how much memory you're using, I was asking how much RAM do you physically have put into the PC?

maybe because it's OCed? Just run it at stock speeds since 100MHz on any CPU will not make any kind of noticable difference in anything, so it can only do harm and no good.
