| Unusual brightness
I have a GeForce4 Ti 4800 and for some odd reason, almost any game I've played ever since with that graphic card has some sort of brightness problem.
For example: In Hitman Contracts, when I shoot the guns become bright and his tie becomes bright too
In Raven Shield, some parts of the game turn bright randomly
In Command & Conquer: Generals, units/buildings/trees/etc. look brighter overall.
Why are things brighter with this graphic card? |

Check you color settings in control panel. make sure its at defaults. This will effect all 3d games. Gamma perticularly. Also turn of that digital vibrance crap if its on. (I have a geforce 3) and its hard to get color set right. |

Digital vibrance is also turned off.
I still have this issue... my friend who gave me this video card said he had no such problem when he was using it so this can probably be solved... I just don't know why it happens and how to solve it. |

here is where you want to set it. http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_6.html
The tab labeld "color correction". Is the one you want. ITs name is misleeding as its not just color-by adjusting color it raises (or lowers) brightness aswell. And gama is there too. |

Ok, I explained my problem incorrectly... I think this isn't a general "brightness" issue, it's more specifically a texture problem where some specific textures show up extremely bright when they shouldn't.
Here are some screenshots I took of two games: Hitman Contract and Command and Conquer Generals. http://www.geocities.com/mazi_tabibi689/pics
Notice how in the very first picture, the hanger doors are unusually bright? same with the nuclear building thing.
in the 2nd picture the big building with the 4 corner towers should not be that bright also.
and in the final picture, hitman's tie and 2 guns are too bright. it goes against all environmental effects. they only turn bright when I shoot the gun.
In Operation Flashpoint, when I play a mission at night... some hillsides are completely bright too, but that game has extensive options and what I did was... I changed my "display device" from Direct3D HW T&L to just Direct3D and that somewhat resolved the brightness issue in that game. I believe T&L means transform and lighting, no?
A friend of mine gave me this video card (I used to have a GeForce 2 Ti w/ 64 MB ram and i never had any such issue with it).
My friend says he never had this problem when he was using it (again i now have a GeForce 4 Ti 4800 w/ 128 MB of RAM)
(sorry if the above is a bit redundant, I just copied and pasted what I explained to another person through email) |

I want to try a clean reinstall of my forecware drivers.
What was that program that cleanly wiped out all registry settings/drivers/etc. for Nvidia and Radeon based graphic cards?
Anybody know? |
