| good quality TV-Tuner with good connectivity and compatibility?
Hi,
I'm looking for a tv tuner that supports both PAL and NTSC(I think there 2 version 2.43 and 2.54 or something)
also want it to be able to connect RF cables and S-video(want it to support NTSC and PAL)
and if it has PVR, to have a capability to turn it on/off
and of course it would be great it if has pretty good video quality too
so far I have found
Hauppauge WinTV Theater, I don't know about it's video quality but I know it can connect RF and S-Video(through it's adaptor cable), don't know if it supports both PAL and NTSC
can you guys please recommend a TV Tuner? and if anyone here owns Hauppauge WinTV Theater, does it support both NTSC and PAL and who is it's video quality?
Thanks! |

you would need two actual tuners on the card to support both formats. the tuner (the tin box which the aerial/cable plugs into) is different for both formats. |

why do you need pal and ntsc. if it is for connection through the video inputs (off cam for example) rather than the tuner input (off air or cable) then i think most cards would possibly be okay with either format. |

Well, I bought a tuner card with the Phillips 7130 chipset for 35 bucks ( very generic ) It has PAL and NTSC options in the menus, but is labels as an NTSC card.
Buy something name brand if you can afford it. You'll be better off spending good money on a good card now, because it will last for a long time. It's not like a video card that is outdated in 6 months. I wish I had waited. I'll make another thread for my problems.
Best advice I got from someone in the know is to get a card with both DVI and AV inputs. ( I guess composite, S video and cable inputs? ) |

sounds like the ntsc version of my pal card, redfury. but i did get a remote control with it
it has a lot of hiss, i will have to adjust the audio in the tuner when i can be bothered. also it doesn't work under linux. my old card was a bt878 based chipset, but no i.r. remote, and no xp drivers well, you get what you pay for. i should have paid for a little more
i hear good things about hauppage. |

Yeah, I've got a remote too, and some funky cord with a small hole in it almost like it's supposed to be a microphone, I assumed it was the receiver for the IR
This one came with XP drivers, but the windows XP installer that came with them was crap, so I had to install them with a different installer... kinda screwed up, but what do you do? I figured..meh, Phillips chipset...how hard is it to screw up. Phillips is a name I trust in television equipment. Just goes to show, just because it has the right chipset, doesn't mean the actual product is all that great. ( probably why I buy my video cards from vendors with reputable names - like Asus ) |
