    Exclamation ATI problems????

Ok, I wanna buy a Ati radeon card (9550 ultra), and was wondering: will I have problems? will I have to get patches and drivers and other things for it to run games? Most of my friends have GeForces and thats what they say...... is that true?
plz hurry, I'm gonna buy it tomorrow!!!!

Nah, I doubt that you'll have to get any pathces.... the newest drivers should remove the need to download patches

Your friends Are compelty wrong and idiotic about having "problems" with an ATI. punch them in the face for me please. If you have an agp 4x or 8x supporting motherboard then you are perfectly fine. I do recomend as for any videocard that you install drivers from ATIs site for the best and most up to date ones though as you would do if you had a Nvidia. Either way It WILL work in all games and your friends are just trying to push you away from ATI. (for what reason i have no clue of)

Well, certain games have bugs and flaws that the developers realize and then release a patch for it to fix these problems, they are not always about vid card errors and most of the time just game fixes such as a glitch in the way something moves. Each individual game MAY have patches but thats all on the main website for the game and has nothing to do with the individual videocard, except for rare occasions.

ok, I bought the card but I havent tested it seriously yet...So far I installed Tomb Raider - the angel of darkness, and almost no problems....so far.....the only thing is a shadow with big annoying pixels. I'd like to know where can I get the latest ATI drivers, and wich of them are best(i've heard about Catalist and some Omega thing...), please help and wish me luck

You can get the new catalyst control center at www.ati.com im not sure if it would resolve your problem because i think that most of the corections probably would be in the disks included in that card because it has been out for awhile. Like the other guy said you may be able to get a patch on the games site im not sure i never had to do that with any games ive ever played. actualy i had one problem with one setting on my card when i had it on CS:CZ didnt look quite right i changed my settings and it was fine. I think it might have been true form but it might be completely different with you card i dont know if it would even have true form.

You can get the latest ATI drivers from the link below:

    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

Please note that ATI recommends having XP Service Pack 2 installed. If you don't have XP SP2 installed and don't want to install it then go to the link below and download the CAT 4.11 drivers.

Edit: Second link didn't work. They've changed the website. From the first link you will have to go to the left hand side of the webpage click on Drivers and Software then Windows XP then Radeon then Previous Drivers and Software.
