can you list your current system specs and your available budget for buying the card?

if your mobo supports a PCI-e card, and you have atleast 180 to spend, buy a MSI PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT at newegg, you get three games with it, it's a very high-quality card and has the ability to play Doom 3 perfectly, also if it's laggy buy some more ram.
RIP TKOP!!

yes , specs on your system would be good.. like the type of cpu you are using, how much ram you have, your operating system...
just saying your going to buy a 128 nVidea card doesn't really make it clear to us on how much you want to spend and what you are thinking of buying...
I will say this, since it looks like your using an "Older" vid card, any new card would be an approvement...
to play Doom3 and modern games with good detail, you most likely would need a
nVidea 5600 Ultra, 5900, 5900XT, 5900 Ultra...
some older cards like the Ti4200, Ti4600, Ti4800 128MB might still work decent... but are DX8
or a "new" card would be a nVidea 6600 or 6600GT 128MB... but price wise, your looking to spend about 130-200 on one of these cards... but they will play Doom3 at high settings very smoothly... (depending on your PC specs)
here is a link to a chart for FPS (frames per second) running Doom3 on high settings... take a look at it, some cards are ATI and some are nVidea... then price out the cards in your budget..

doddsy i hav P4, 2.80 Ghz, 256 MB RAM... & yes i m gonna make my RAM 512 Arenal & i dont mind spending a bit high coz i love videogames lol
& nVidea 5600 Ultra, 5900, 5900XT, 5900 Ultra... r they all 128 mb ram coz i think the MBram makes the most difference right?

ANNNNND.......
Its not always as simple as just slapping in a card...
The power supply requirements have to be met as well...
If this is a Compaq, HP, Gateway, etc... then you can almost forget about a decent upgrade..
You might want to look at the ATI 9800 with 256Bit and 128MG ram...
and yes you do want a decent amount of MB ram, but in general the Video ram is actually more important for gaming

well, i found out with Doom3 , i had 512MB ddr400 ( 2X 256MB) Mushkin blue in dual channel... with a 5900XT 128MB Leadtek... it played ok, but still a little sluggish running "HIGH SETTINGS"...
I switched my ram to (2 X 512) ddr400 and kept the same card... and the difference in playing the game was huge... i put it on ultra settings 1024X768 and played really well, only a slight bit of lag.. under "HIGH SETTINGS" it played great...
so system ram can make a difference.. if you stick with just 512MB (by the way, what speed is it ..? pc2100 , pc2700 , pc3200 ??) i would look at a good top end card like a 9800Pro (ATI) or a nVidea 5900 or 5900 Ultra (128MB) or looks as though you can put in a 6600GT AGP card... that would be a good choice if you have the money.. but still would up your system ram to 512MB...

on my pc i dont hav the option of 1024X768, all i get is 600x800,640x840 & 1 more which i cant remember...& i cant beleive its so difficult 2 just play doom 3 smoothly, i really hate wen games r slow, i really really hate that so i wana sure it doesnt happen if i play doom 3
already hitman 2 is slow & i hate it! but prince of persia 3d & UT worked fine
as far as i think (i will hav 2 check min requirements again) doom3 should work very smoothly with 128 mb card & 512 MB ram
& i guys i dont hav much tech knowledge about graphics card/rams but i know the basics though so it may take me a while 2 figure out wat u said lol n i ll replu later 2 that
i really appreciate all the posts made by u guys & i hav a lot of questions which i ll b askin later!

April 8th, 2005, 10:20 AM #11Generally, that is true for today's games.

Also, there are different kinds of ram so 512MB SD RAM is not the same as 512MB of DDR RAM.
What is the model number of your motherboard? That'll tell us what kind of graphics card and RAM you can do?
This'll help

right now i hav 256 DDR RAM but i ll upgrade it to 512 DDR RAM, i hav a NVIDIA RIVA TNT @ model 64.. 32 MB graphic card but... when my pc boots up it shows me as 32 MB ram card but wen i see it on device manager on the nvidia properties it tells me its 16 MB now thats really fishy, but i mpretty sure its 32 also 16 is the normal graphics card or the basic card most pcs have so i m pretty sure its 32 mb graphics card & iwant 2 upgrade it to 128MB ( or shouldi upgrade it to even higher?)

Dont look for the raw specs. You have to look for a faster GPU. Right now, 128mb is good enough. Only game that takes advantage of 256mb is Doom3. Of course 256mb is future proof. But i suggest u to get atleast 512mb ram and maybe buy ATI Radeon 9800PRO or 6600GT if u want to spend some more money. Dont buy any of the FX series b/c they are horrible in DX9 games which are the games now we're playing.

are ATI Radeon 9800PRO or 6600GT both made by nvidia?
i m not confused about my computer MB RAM i m gonna increase it to 512 MB RAM but i m really confused about the card coz there r so many graphics cards available, right now i m thinkin of puchasin ASUS nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra Video Card, now i hav gone thru the requirements but i m not sure if its compatiable with my pc, i dont know about my bus, power supply but i ll try 2 find it on my own.
i have 2.8 Ghz ram,my RAMs gonna be 512 MB RAM & I have pentium 4
so every game should work fine with ASUS nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra Video Card riright?? & i beleive its theexisting best card right? according to http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...arts-07.html??

x850PE beats the 6800ultra by alittle. And im sure u would have to upgrade PSU to run a 6800Ultra cause think drinks voltage. And unless ur a extreme, super extreme gamer a 6800ultra isnt really nescassy unles u future proofing.
I i was u id save some money get a gig of ram and 6600GT. That could run any game now and later on highest settings.
And the 9800pro is ATI.3.2ghz HT P4
1024kingston DDR2
ATI 9800pro 256mb
160gb sata raid hd

April 12th, 2005, 04:22 PM #19I agreed, get 1G ram and 6600GT.
