the memory on the 9600 XT is 256DDR
and on the 9700 Pro, its 128DDR
does this make much differance?
well the 9700 PRo work will with the Sims 2, Driv3r, Swat 4 and Gta San Andreas?
the main reason was because my bad intergraded 64mb video card runs badly in it.
so if i get the 9700 Pro, the sims 2, driv3r, Swat 4, and Gta San Andreas will work mighty fine? hey guess what? San Andreas is coming out for me on the 10th of June.
( coz im in australia )
53 more days

I wouldn't say mighty fine, but they will run a heck of a lot better than an integrated graphics chip. If your choice is between those two cards, go with the 9700 Pro. But I strongly encourage a 6600/6600GT for the money...
Is there no way you can save $40 bucks to get a 6600GT? You got 53 more days man until San Andreas comes out... That's less than a dollar a day! It will be worth it, trust me.ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe

i know that there is only a 128mb 9700pro. But if it was a 256mb 9600xt. It could be a different story because games like battlefield or any other game with bots a 9600xt would be good to get over a 9700pro. But only in that type of case!

Doesn't the bots depend on the vga ram? if not please go to my thread! i need advice on my 6600gt! Is this my vga ram! (10)

April 18th, 2005, 10:59 AM #26No, VGA ram only effects performance when there are alot of texture to load in the game. Bots are effected by CPU no VGA RAm.

April 18th, 2005, 11:00 AM #27I'm not sure but i think he means that 256mb will take more advantage of 128mb due to complex texture on the field. But 9700pro is MUCH faster than 9600XT. So i dont think that is possible.

Yea, except 6600 performs different in newer games and older game. It performs better in newer games but slower in older games. 9800NP is slighty slower than 9700pro. 9800NP is just a revision b/c of the heat issue 9700pro caused =D.

Get 9700pro. If u do I'll give a full guide to maximize that card. You can overclock that card upto 9800pro speed.

April 18th, 2005, 10:01 PM #31yea, but you would need to invest another 20 bucks or so towards a better HSF in order to OC it that well, so 6600 is the best choice.

April 18th, 2005, 10:31 PM #33There's no way that card will hold @9800pro speeds with just that "plastic" HSF

Okay i will explain. There is a Sqaure metal shim around the GPU to protect the GPU. If you take that off. The GPU will have the full contact with the Heatsink. The problem with the 9700pro was that there was no contact between HS and the GPU. Thats why there is a thick thermal pad between those two. Also 9700pro actually has the best heatsink out of all the 9xxx serious. Do some google and u can find it out.

I doubt there was no contact at all... That would be completely pointless to have the HS on there at all.
Edit-
To make a 9700Pro into a 9800Pro takes 55Mhz increase in VPU speed and 60Mhz increase in memory speed... That's a pretty good amount. But can be done if a stock HSF is really nice. Otherwise, and aftermarket HSF would be needed.Last edited by RamAirTA98; April 19th, 2005 at 03:19 AM.

im really confused now.
what is a As5? what is a HSF?
if its the texture that loads on the videocard memory, wouldnt that come under san andreas? because there is going to be full refelctions and draw distance heaps?
and heaps of textures.

April 19th, 2005, 10:58 AM #37AS5 is arctic silver 5 paste that is used to cover little space between the hSF and the GPU. And HSF is heatsink fan that is attached to the GPU to cool it down.

Oh! I found the article that helped me modd my 9700pro into 9800pro. Almost into 9800XT.

AMD chips have the same shim. As it states in the guide, it is used so that corners of the chip don't, well, chip...
