| getting black streaks and jumbled text
heyal,
i hadn't been on my pc for about a week or so and when i turned it on the were streaks across it even when just monitor turned on i get it.
it looks as tho there is interference in it but dont really think that to be likely. even called pge because there was a power surge couple weeks back.
what im not sure is is this the lcd or could it be my graphic card is shot?
its a compaq 5000 lcd monitor
geforce nvidia2 mx 64mb
any help would be great,
thank you,
sb

| points to the problem being the monitor. To be sure, you should test it on a different power circuit to ensure it isnt your power coming in, and with another computer if you have one. Or at least unplug it from your video card-if the problem goes away(unlikely IMO) then it most likely would be the video card.
First thing that comes to mind is possibly The surge (or a Lightning strike) cooked part of your electrical supply, but that is just a guess at this point. Changing the circuit the monitor is plugged into will help eliminate it as an issue.

Since the CRT working properly indicates the graphics card is ok,
I believe you may have a malfunctioning Controller board inside the LCD itself. While it could also be the LCD panel itself or Power supply (inside the monitor) your indications leads me to belive it most likely is the controller board.
I sincerely hope its still under warranty, but it probably wont be covered. You probably can get it fixed "relatively" cheap-at a guess in the $150 range but that is just a guess.
I think you should take it to a pro in your area and have him examine it to get a better idea of the problem, and cost to get it fixed but that by itself will probably cost about $75.00. |
