ah, I forgot to say, a MSI 6600GT 128mb AGP8x here in brasil costs about $700, a MSI 6800ULTRA 256mb AGP8x is about $1000, a RX800XT 256MB is about $1200... it's outrageous!

$700 - $1200 that is way to much for those cards, unless you are very rich , I wouldn't even consider upgrading if I had to pay that much! Have your friend buy a good one! I recomend the X800 XL, great prices on it right now!

no X800XL also comes in AGP versions

ya ask your friend who is going to the u.s to get you kick-ass AGP X800XL which costs about 320$ or something half the price of the 6600GT available in your country . specifically tell him to get the AGP version or else it wont work on your motherboard coz pci express cards will not work/fit in a AGP slot or vice versa .

good luck man ! if you dont have to spend that much , just get 128MB 6600GT or 256MB 9800PRO but the X800XL has 8 pixel pipelines more than the two above-mentioned cards and its awesome slightly better ( correct if i am wrong ) than the 6800GT

It does run most games better than the 6800 GT, except Doom 3 of course, but that is only 1 game whereas(is that the way whereas is spelt, or is it where as?) the X800 XL beats it in 95% of the others, but only by a few fps. I hate to admit that this gen ati is better in that range, I do love nVidia!

Make sure that you have a psu that will support your card to, I got a 6800 GT running on a 250W psu, and at first it was fine, but now I'm getting artifacts up the wazoo!

I have an standard 450w psu on my system...

I thank you all for the help... I think my friend is going to be on Boston area, I don't know for sure... I'm in doubt about Radeon X700 or the X800... the deciding factor will be the price in dollars by the time he will be in US and the value of the dollar related to our local money...


should I get a 256mb card instead of a 128mb one or it will make no difference?

I don't like IM's unless it is during a game, do you have XBOX Live? Just plain IM'ing I think is boring, and I can't do it for more than 5 min!
But if you have XBox live add me, my tag is EXreaction2 (only named "2" because I demo'd it for 3 months, then got rid of it, and M$ never got rid of my old guy(need the old credit card #, which I don't have anymore))! Could play some Halo 2 multi!
