    VGA to Component Adapter

building a small pc for pvr and htpc capabilities. it will be hooked to a 27" standard tv with no hd or anything special. is there an adapter that will simply go from the vga monitor output to a component video cable? the reason i'd like to go to component video is that if i hook it via component instead of s-vido i can use the recieiver of my home theatre to do switching. there's an e-bay auction here that looks like it might work. any thoughts?

actually....just saw that this doesn't work......it doesn't work for pc out to component. it's actually the other way around....from component to vga in.

    bummer.

ATI All in Wonder 9600XT has it, but you have to buy the adaptor separately.

YPrPb component video adapter (cable) is included with the North American All-in-Wonder 9800 PRO and All-in-Wonder 9700 PRO.

Converters for VGA to component seem to run about $100+. They need some fairly sophisticated electronics to convert the colorspace from RGB to YPbPr, scale the resolution and refresh rate to NTSC, and convert from progressive scan to interlaced. A simple cable will not work.

All recent ATI cards support component-out, dongle available from ATI online store.
