Question about underclocking.
Would it be fine to underclock your gfx card in 2d mode, to lower temps, or wouldn't it do much?

Yes, but if your card is overheating in 2d mode, there is somthing seriously wrong with the card.

Some cards do this automatically anyways - are you referring to your system and it's 6800 in your sig? If so, don't worry, it already underclocks itself.

It is not overheating, it is just that if I could remove some of the heat, that would be great. Yes the system in my specs is what I'm talking about. So, it automatically adjusts itself, it is not set at the frequency in the 2D settings?

I think that's what they said.

Well, I think I sent an email in to BFG, but it isn't showing in the sent folder. I'll wait till tommarow to see if they reply, if they don't I guess I'll send it again.

This is what the guy said at BFG
Well, not worried about my warranty, already OC'd it to 400, 1100. I'll try it out and see how much I can lower my temps.Thank you for your request. It's not necessarily bad, but it does void your
limited lifetime warranty. That would be why lifetime is preceded by the word
'limited' actually. The final decision is ultimately yours, as you did purchase
the card, so...
Edit: And one other thing, the card I have does not automatically underclock itself during 2d mode, it stays at 370. I think that is only with the newer models."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

Well, I guess that underclocking doesn't help any. I lowered it from 370 to 200, and the core temperature lowered a whole 1C!

Try lowering the voltage is possible.

I really don't want to mod it, it is ok idling at 57C right now.
IMO, it isn't worth risking the card to get lower temps.

is the 3d overclocked....? If so, your cards temp is probably from the 3d being overclocked....

wait a minute...BFG told you that underclocking your card would void your warranty?
-

Ya, I OC'd my 3d settings to 400/1100, but I have not used anything that is 3d yet today, and it is still 57C core, 38 ambiant.

hmm, i think even if you have it overclocked, but arn't using the 3d, it will still raise the temp... oh so i thought... i could be wrong though....
i notice that my 9800 if overclocked becomes hotter, even if it's not being used for a 3d application...

I don't think that it has gotten any hotter from OC'ing it, I think that was about the same temp it was idleing at before.

EXreaction: try OC-ing ur 2D to the same core as ur 3D.. that's wat i did for my 6800 and temps dropped like 10 or so... no idea why

AFAIK from personal experience, underlocking the card in 2d mode didn't change my temps at all.

For the record, underclocking does indeed void the BFG warranty despite it being no where within their warranty agreement.

Needless to say I'll never EVER be buying another product from those scam artists.
