directx problem
Hello, don't know for sure if directx is my problem or not, but that's where I notice it. Here it goes:
Just installed directx8.1 but I have noticed this with 8 also on this and another system.
soltek 75drv2
athlon900
gainward gf2ti
driver ver. 23.11
One of the tools that came with the vidcard, named expert tool, shows directx info. It says directx 0 installed, it said this before upgrading to 8.1 also. Then it lists the different versions of each thing, all seem fine except direct 3d which must not be installed or something. All of the others list ver 5.01.2600.0881 directx 0, but direct 3d lists 5.00.2180.0001 directx #.#.
I tried reinstalling and get same results.
I tried directx diag tool and test direct 3d and it stops part of the way through and here's what is says in the notes:
"direct3d test results: Failure at step 5(GetDeviceCaps): HRESULT =0x8876086a (3Dnot available)
Any ideas of how to solve this problem?

Well, first of all. Your mainboard uses a KT266A chipset and requires you to install VIA 4 in 1 if you're using Windows 2000 or any previous versions. Did you install VIA 4 in 1 already?
And are all 3 DirectX features showing ENABLED?[NDC]

Sorry, I forgot to mention that part. Yep, I'm running 2000, loaded 4in1 already, but I just bumped the agp to ver410 just to see if there was a slim chance that would do anything and it did not, but I guess I didn't expect it to.
All of the directx features are enabled. Does that point to my video card then?

Here's an update. I searched around a little and found more people who had this problem here:http://www.driverforum.com/graphics3/2960.html
They said they just disabled direct 3d and then reenabled it and it worked, and it worked for me too.
That's pretty weird.
So, it gets through the tests and everything now, but it still lists the direct 3d version as that other version whatever that is.
I don't know if that really matters or not, but everything seems to run fine. Anyone else notice what version of direct 3d it says for their system?
