| PCI running AGP games?
Sorry for being a twat, but a mate of mine recently bought a package from Dell (I did warn him......) and he stated all he wanted from a PC was the ability to play modern games (HL2, Doom 3 etc). But after having it a while, he couldn't load some games. When I looked at it, it has an integrated chip, and it was AGP dependant games that were causing problems. He wanted to put a new graphics card in, but there is no AGP slot on the motherboard! Question - will top end PCI cards run games which specify AGP support? Dell do not want to know.
Thanks!
Tony. |

games are not built specifically AGP ports, they are built to work with hardware and the software on your computer.
So to answer your question yes it will be playable BUT PCI video cards are slower that AGP so and depending on what card you have determines the playablity of the game. |

Teh bestest pci card I can find is fx5200 which is not good.
Thus, I doubt getting a pci card will help his cause. |

Says there the performance is tad better than 5200. (sorry about the cache link, I can't view the original page behind office proxy)
They sell computers for as low as 300e here, so spending 100e on crappy graphics card doesn't sound very wise to me. |
