    PCI-e question

What should it be, I overclocked my CPU to 3.8 from 2.8 and it set my PCI-e to 122, and if I lower it to 100 it won't boot. ANy suggestions?

Don't put it lower than that number. That should be the obvious part.

What kind of processor is this?

Celeron D. People have said that anything different from 100 will cause issues, and well the Mark3d was a bit lower next time around.

uhhhm, firstly the 122 is the PCI bus speed i think you mean. Now, normally you aren't supposed to have it any higher than stock.. i don't understand why you need to lower it if it works at 122....

if you said wrong, and you mean it works at 100, but not 122, then you need to get it close to 100.. you can do that by changing the bus speed manually, or if it is a ratio, then pick one that gets close...

and, more info on mobo, cpu, and ram would be helpful..

No the PCI-e is at 122Mhz. I have herd from someone on here that it sometimes causes problems if it is higher than 100Mhz. I wanted some other opinions. Abit AA8-3rd board. 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) RAM. 2x512.

It was at auto detect. So it set itself to that.

erm, I have a suggestion, DON'T mess with your PCI-e and PCI clocks!

    122 is the stock clock speed for PCI-e 16x since AGP 8x clock is 66MHz x2= 122MHz clock of PCI-e 16x

Thanks for clearing that up nwo. I had read that the PCI-e was 100mhz stock & should be locked there when overclocking. I'm still running AGP so I have no direct experience with PCI-e.

    Thanks

Well, all I am doing is using logic in comparison with the AGP 8x clock. I am also still using AGP and have never used PCI-e (but certainly looking forward to it).

Well, I have been doing some more looking around and it seems the stock PCI-e speed is 100mhz. However some intel chipsets have problems when you manually change the setting though and the advice is to leave it set to Auto.

Additionally it's recommended to set the PCI-e to 105 with ATI cards. I guess that would be the best setting with a non-intel mobo.

Sooooo, that cleared up nothing. lol

    But 66*2s = 132 ? Otherwise good theory.
