    Picked up a new card

I've stuck with my venerable MSI 9800 Pro 128MB for some time, even after changing CPU's from an XP to a P4. It worked well, not the fastest around, but I went to Fry's with my new credit card (more on that later) mainly to poke around. Long story short I ended up with a new 256MB X800 XL when I got home.

It's AGP, I'm not ready to upgrade my PSU/CPU/mobo yet. I like it so far, gotta get Steam updated so I can test out HL2 but World of Warcraft runs really good, so does UT2004 with everything maxed, 1280x1024. I can throw 4x AA on and only get a FPS dip in rare occasions.

It was an investment, but I think I'm happy with it.

It's a 480w Thermaltake PFC, powers an OC'd P4, four hard drives, two PCI cards, two RAM sticks, and two CD drives. Hasn't choked since I put the card in, and I don't expect it to.

Ok...I loaded Hl2, set it to 1280x1024 and maxed everything including HDR - w00t! nice FPS! 60 in most areas, dropped some in crowded places like in the beginning courtyard.

Damn, nice. x800xl's are good choices. just wondering if you play hl2 with any anti-aliasing and amistrophic filtering at 1280x1024?

When I tested it AA/AF was turned off but I can, once Steam works (oxymoron?) again.
