| Odd problem with Graphics card or AGP slot
I currently have a GeForce4 installed in my K8HNA Grand mobo. I have an Athlon 64 processor, 512Meg RAM and a 120Gig hard drive.
The problem I have manifests itself in two ways. Firstly during normal PC use single green and purple pixels appear around my screen. This is a little distracting but not the end of the world. However, when I try to watch videos my pc either hangs up, the video flickers black every few seconds, the media player crashes or the video disappears altogether leaving only the audio playing in the media player.
At first I thought it might be DivX that was the problem seeing as those tended to be the files most badly affected. After re-installing a few codecs the problem has not gone away and all types of video are affected. I do not play games regularly on my PC but a recent test install of Black and White presented hugely corrupted game graphics and ended with my PC hanging up. Also, I have not used the GeForce4 in this set-up before so I have no idea of any conflicts that might occur.
Not long ago I had a Radeon 6800 whose fan failed and I didn't notice for a few hours. Leaving me to wonder whether any heat damage had been done to the agp slot?
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated

Have you considered that your monitor could be the problem? Id suggest if possible trying both your monitor on a different pc system and seperatly trying your vid card if possible, also could you get hold of (borrow or buy 2nd hand) a vid card that you know to be in good working order. Im afraid its a process of elimination, The other thing is when you replaced the ATI card with te NVIDIA did you First uninstall all drivers for the ati then swap the cards and install all the nvidia drivers? Possibly a driver conflict? Also have you got Nvidias latest drivers installed?

Hi there,
I happen to have a second monitor handy and have tried the pc with that, getting the same problem. In between changing the two cards over I had a seperate problem with my hard drive and thus the GeForce was installed with a entirely formated HD which hopefully should have ruled out the driver clash problem. I have also checked that I have the most up to date drivers from the nVidia website. One thing I have not been able to do is try the system with another graphics card but it is certainly worth a try.
Thanks for the advice,

Wait...I just noticed you said that you had a Radeon 6800 in your pc before...do you mean you had a nVidia 6800, or something else? |

Have you tried putting in a different graphics card? I had a 9700 pro that would show up lots of green dots and that was due to a faulty memory module or something. Basically the card was bust.
Tried any different cards?

The fan on that failed and it ran without one for a few hours - and thus was pretty warm when I finally took it out! That seemed to be the start of all my problems but I don't know whether it was a coincidence or not

Tried any different cards? | Since I started having the problems I haven't tried anything other than the GeForce4 but I will try something else if I get then chance. intuition tells me it is a probelm with the mobo or AGP slot itself. |

Could be a bad AGP slot.
If you have one, use an old PCI card. |
