wow...that's a pretty damn old computer to be running the sims 2!! lol. what speed is the processor? also...the reason people post there answeres here is so that you don't get 1000 responses with the exact same answer and we can also see eachothers ideas and learn from it. I'm sure most people here will agree with me and ask that you come back here to view these responses rather than have them e-mailed to you, or else that defeats teh whole point of using a forum rather than just e-mailing tech support somewhere. |

That thing may chug on Sims 1 |

Minimum System Requirements for The Sims 2
If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:
* 800 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:
* 2.0 GHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space |

hey...restart your computer and while it's booting, watch the screen..it should tell you how fast your processor is. If not, you can get cpu-z from http://www.cpuid.com/ run that and it'll give you some info about the processor and other stuff! you're game is going to be wicked slow no matter what you do. with the advanced ai and interactions going on, it takes a quick processor to do this stuff. I have a 2.7 ghz processor, geforce fx 5200 (low end newer video card), and 512 memory and it still runs slow on my computer! The best you can do is probably buy a whole new computer rather than just a new processor!! (athlon processor for gaming, ddr memory, and a new mobo w/ a new graphics card...time to start saving!! lol). For now...you can install it and just turn all the graphics settings low or off...and make the screen resolution as low as possible. It won't look as nice, but it'll play quicker . |

Welcome to TechIMO!
First thing...can you not talk ike dis ere ould dat e 2 ard for u? ...when someone talks like that, it is much harder for all the people trying to help you to understand what you are saying.
Next...the only way you would be able to play The Sims 2 would be to buy a new computer...there is no way that any amount of upgrading will help you out...
...if you are short on cash, I would save up, and buy a Dell...the best one for you would be the E510 http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...19&l=en&s=dhs#
If you do look at them, don't look at anything less than that...since in the lower models, there is NO way to upgrade the graphics unless you want to use a pci card...which will not help much.
...first of all, from Dell, the only way to get a good deal is to get the bare minimum from them...unless they have a really good deal on an upgrade...check newegg.com for the upgrade, and see if you can get it for cheaper alone...like the ram upgrades...they want $50 to upgrade from 256Mb to 512Mb...you can buy 512Mb of ram for about $40...so that is a horrible deal...then buy a new vid card later...so mabey the default E510, then buy a gig of ram from newegg.com(ask us to help you get the right stuff), and a vid card...again, ask us for some help when the time comes for you to buy one.
...also, if you want that dell, makesure you wait a while for the best deal...I bet you could get that E510 for less than $400 with a 17" lcd if you wait a month or two...just keep checking dell.com, techbargains.com, and resellerratings.com everyday to see if there is a hot deal on it.
Hope this has helped. |
