Need a new graphics card - which one?

    My system is as follows:

    Model: MD8080 (Medion)
    Motherboard:
    • MS-7012 (Micro-Star)
    • Intel 865/848 (Springdale)
    CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz
    Memory: 1GB
Graphics card: Radeon 9800 Pro (?) AGP with 128mb video memory

The graphics card is in fact a specially made for medion systems but I think it holds pretty much the same as an average 9800 Pro.

I scored a pretty much disgraceful 1862 3DMarks (2005 version). My games linger around 30fps but usually around 20fps. This is not good for me as this graphics card is getting older and older and I want to play better and better games. The recent memory upgrade and the change to omega drivers improved things massivly, but the graphics card is still putting the whole PC down .

So, I need a new AGP (8x is the max my mobo supports) graphics card within my budget which is better the one now.

So whats my budget? well lets just say I wont be getting a 7800GT or a X850 . I need a pretty cheap one which does the job better.

I feel a lot of my problem is down to simply not enough video memory. Especially in games like Battlefield 2. If I upgraded to a 9800 Pro with 256mb memory would it improve a lot?

Another option would be the Sapphire Technology Radeon X700 256MB. It looks impressive and is around the £80 mark.

I'm pretty stuck here - need an upgrade.

I know its a little more than 80 pounds, but its a good card. And leadtek is one of the best card makers, imo.

the 9800 and X700 are in the same range...the 700 might even be a little worse.

A 6600GT wouldnt be the biggest upgrade but it would be good! if i was you i wouldnt upgrade to a 6600GT until your ready to get a new mobo and what not and go to PCI-e. It pointless to spend money on a AGP then be upgrading in year or soemthing anyways.

I see. This upgrade will probably be the last before the computer is dumped and replaced. But I really need this upgrade before I pull my hair out.

So the X700 was a bad idea. That one on Overclock.co.uk looks good.

Are PNY a good make? As there's a good looking card here:
