    Buying a 6800gt agp

I live in UK and I am having no luck getting my hands on one of these cards , plenty of pci ones but no agp, all sold out or discontinued. Have nvidia disconntinued these cards?? If so what do you recommend as a similar card to a 6800gt 256mg??

    Welcome To TechIMO!

I heard 6800gt's are getting harder and harder to find as of late, don't think they discontinued them completely though (7800gt is out now so i dunno)

But the best competitor you can find in the same price range and sometimes a good 20-40dollars cheaper depending on where you look, is the X800xl.

It performs pretty much exact, while requiring less power, and generating less heat.

what are your complete system specs, including your power supply.

Also you mean PCI-E not pci

    thankyou for quick reply

    Pent 4 2.8
    1.5 gb ram
500 power supply from memory that is

at the moment I have a standard 6800, and well it was a good jump from the fx5500 I had before but it needs an upgrade, so I want to upgrade to something that is decent now and doesnt require a whole new motherboard change

The 6800GT has been discontinued. There will be a 6800GS AGP to replace it, but I doubt it will be out in the UK before Christmas.

Well if you can save up a bit more money, go for an X800xt, or maybe X850xt, either of those will be a worthwhile jump from a 6800.

AHH discontinued. the 6800 gs isnt anywhere near as lovely as the 6800 gt.. meaning for a decent jump I need to look at a 6800 ultra, and that costs the cash.

back to the x800 's not know alot about ati always using a nvidia.. how does the range go??

    x800 > x800xt> x800xl??? there is a pro thingy too I see

    It goes, X800, x800gt, x800pro, x850pro, x800XL, x800xt, x800xtpe, x850xt, x850xtpe

there are a few more, I think gto, and gto2 but those are new and I don't know how well they perform yet.

The x850pro and x800xl are 6800gt equivalents, and the x800xt and up are better than the 6800ultra.

    Yes, it will.
    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27760

The x800GTO has 8 pipes normally which can be unlocked to 12 to bring the performance up to around a x800xt depending on how far you want to overclock.

The x800GTO2 IS a x850xt core(they are liquidating them to make room for the x1800 line) and is easily unlockable to bring it to full x850XT speeds with little to no effort. While a good deal when they first came out at $200, they now are in the $250-300 range because demand has drivent the price up. Not as good of a deal at that price
