| Acer 17" DVI LCD Monitor w/ 6600GT causing problem!
Well.... i just purchased a Acer 1715 monitor. It's hooked up with my AGP 6600GT DVI. Problem is, my monitor keeps turning on and off randomly. Also i don't see anything until it goes to log in screen. So i can't even go to bios. Is this normal for dvi interface? I'm used to vga...

Three likely causes: 1) Monitor could have a defect. 2) The AGP/PCI isn't set for agp in bios.
3) The video card is slightly lifted in the slot where you have an intermittent contact. If the
problem persists after Windows has reached the desktop there are other concerns. |

Do you have the DVI output defined as the primary monitor in your display properties? |

A persistent problem could indicate a standby mode fault with the monitor since this is the
problem seen before Windows is fully loaded. If the problem was seen after the Windows
desktop was reached then a default display setting would be likely. |

And i doubt its the video card being lifted b/c it works completely fine VGA but not with DVI. |

Hmm... maybe it's a bad DVI cable? Any chance you can swap cables temporarily with a friend/coworker? |

Well i know its not a bad DVI cable because i used a DVI/VGA converter with that DVI cable to use it on analog mode and it worked fine. So it's not the cable b/c even the analog output wouldve been but it wasnt. |

suggests a defect with the monitor itself. You should readily see the post screen on
any system without issues. The video card would also be suspect. The best way to
determine if the monitor is at fault is to run a different one on the system to see if
the same problems are experienced. If the problems remain, a bad video card or
another hardware is the cause. That would mean something else is failing. |

problem is, i dont have any other computer with DVI port on the video card to test it out. I think it is a defect b/c monitor constantly says "no signal" randomly and comes back on when i use DVI even though its all fully connected. |
