| I have a decision to make...Need Help!
Ok, I'm happy that the 7800 GS 256mb AGP x8 has come out, w00t there still is life. Now my first question is, should I go for the 6800 GT 256mb AGPx8, since it has more pixel pipelines and ROP's, or go for the 7800 GS.
My second question is I have a 3.0GHZ+HT 478 (If I'm not mistaken)...etc... You can check more on my system specs here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=c00058235
Mind you, I'm upgrading my ram from 512mb to another 512mb so 1gb
There here is my second question, I don't know if any of you have heard this, but can my computer run Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion on high quality settings at a 1024x768 or higher on my computer?? Or should I upgrade my computer ram even more.
For more info here is the recommended system specs for the game:
Recommended:
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
Minimum System Requirements:
Windows XP
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse
Just for comparison I've added the minimum system requirments in there.
Well thanks for your replies. |

Performance difference between 6800GT and 7800GS isnt that great. I wouldnt even buy 6800GT at all because it's not worth the price for the performance it gives.
So final word is, money. However, since it doesnt seem like your a hardcore gamer, it'd go for 6800GT. Elder Scroll isn't that GPU demanding so you'll have no problem running 1024x768 @ max settings. Get the 7800GS if u have the money.
Or x800xtpe

Yea, I have a Geforce FX 5200 128mb really bad at any game past 2002. For example bf2 at 1024x768 at all low and turned off, still lags from time to time. Although I am getting another stick of 512 ram I hope will help. I used to be a hardcore gamer, but school and a life has taken over that, and I maybe only have time to play for a long time is during weekend's. I found a 6800GT for $290 (CDN) and a 7800GS for $299 (CDN)...So based on this I'll go for the 7800 GS. Unless there is some unseen force in the cosmo's, that say otherwise. Well, thanks for the reply. As I also have to buy a new PSU for the 7800GS which is 400W Minimum, now I have to shell out another 50-100$ (CDN), can't wait for that.
On the other hand, NightRise420, or any others for that matter, how do you know it isn't that GPU demanding? (Do you have any information on that or any articles to support this theory or statement.) Does it mean its dependant on my CPU and RAM? Should I be concentrating on more RAM than 1GB, or is that enough? Or am I misunderstaing something. I mean I just want this video card to hold out until the AMD M2 Mobo's come out. Then with Vista comes the new DX10, which will be just peachy considering the new video cards that will come out for that. Sigh, I'm starting to regret all this money wasted, due to the important fact of wasting money, when computers get updated every day -- well enough of my rambling. Good night. |

Elder Scroll uses the same engine as 3dmark01 which is very CPU and Ram dependent. I'm not saying u can have good cpu and good amount of ram and a crappy video card. Just saying that the game is better off playing with more memory than better video card.
And 1GB is more than enough for most games including this one. Only games that requires more than 1GB is BF2. |

Even BF2 will run on 512mb RAM on very low settings...trust, me i do it on a 9200 with 512mb and a P4 2.8ghz. time for an upgrade? No, time for a new PC? Yes, :P
I'll get my FPS for it in a sec and add it to this post. |

Damn, you BF2. *shakes fist* Sigh, well my friend said 1GB is enoughf for a 32 play game but if your going for 64 you'll most likely need 2GB of ram. I don't know if this is true, but I usually tend to stay away from big games as I like a smaller atmospehere. So I think I am lucky there.
Thanks for replies. Just made my decision up. 7800GS here I come. |

well, i seem to manage on 512mb on basically minimum settings on 64ppl maps...still getting into page file, so you really need 1gb at least. However, when you average 35FPS or so and a game looks that good anyway, you really don't care, |
