make sure you have the extra power connector plugged in

Chieftec makes crappy power supplys...very cheap....

    I would get this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953
That has more than enough power for your system

Again the system probably requires more than you think. I have a Sempron 3100, 1 Gig of RAM, 2 drives, a 6800GS and an nForce3 motherboard and my 400w PSU started to crap out with the few case fans I had attached. Once I started unpluggin peripherals things went back to normal but I got a much nicer 430w PSU and system is fantastic now with all my stuff running.

Yeah, i'd get a new PSU if i were you. Return your current PSU if you can as its new, and buy a better one.

You can not simply figure out what amount of power you need by wattage...there is more to it than that...

Yeah, thats definatly true on EX's part. it all depends on the rails you have etc etc. Basically, if your PSU is heavy its pretty good quality(believe it or not) if its light then its lower quality. Of course this will vary depending on the PSU's rating and what form factor it is, but it basically holds true.

    Hard to imagine isn't it?

But then you can't figure which PSU to buy by feeling its weight lol.

Both Tagan and Seasonic make very good power supplies. Either should serve you well. If you are looking for quiet, the Seasonic is the better choice.

Mirko, these guys are quick to throw some money at a problem to solve it, I would first try out the card at a different pc, and see if the issue still comes up. Then I would triple check the connections.

Cheiftec makes decent power supplies, and I know for a fact you can run a similar configuration on a 350w declared chieftec psu.

Not the ones that I have used...the last one I replaced for someone was sooo cheap...it wouldn't even let you restart the computer...it would just hang on the boot...

elmers- Thats because the problem is pretty simple. The card isn't at fault, but the PSU is...it says so in the screen shot .

I'd go with the PSU's listed in the thread linked by Ex, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953

Cheap but powerful from a respected company.

Well I've had a low end chieftec psu work for 2 years in a barton box that was always on. It worked perfect. Then I did something that I shouldn't have done, and burned the box. Still the psu was ok, even tho the mobo and proc were fried. It may be that I just got lucky?

Lol, well i do depending on what it says. But in this case, i don't see why it would lie about slowing itself down. Unless Nvidia stand to make money on PSU's people buy...ohhh

BTW- a barton system take much power? I wouldn't expect it does because with that type of CPU your not going to be using a power hungry GPU are you? Or a load of HDD's and DVD/CD drives probably. You might, but back in the barton day you needed less space...for me anyway, seeing as i like gaming and games are bigger and bigger lol.

If he's in croatia, then he can still find that PSU out there probably, or maybe give us a website from which he or she is looking to buy from so we can choose a good PSU in their price range.

ok so you can shop for mirko with this link (the one he provided) link and you can check the prices by googling "xx kuna in dollars" where xx is the price on the site. I'm guessing he's looking to spend around 600kn.

<off topic> Barton ~ 70w + 2hd,1.5gb ram, 2cd, sb, tvtuner, 9600xt... its not that it drains a lot of power its that it was on 24/7 for p2peering, and then gaming once in the evening. Thats a lot of strain on the psu, don't you think?

Just a thought, it would be great if the psu was the issue here, but what if he spent the money and still had the same problem?
