| ATI 9700 Crashing during games
Hey all,
Just upgraded my system from Win2k to WinXP (should have stayed ) Anyway, ever since I have upgraded my machine is crashing when I try and play games. I play Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2, Second Life, and Battle for Middle Earth 2. My machine has crashed during each game. The crash consist of the game and system freezing and them crashing to a black screen, which then requires me to hard reboot.
My system is
Athlon 2800+
ATI Radeon 9700
1 gig of DDR 3200 RAM
Windows XP
All of this started upon upgrading, I play all my games without problem under Win2k. I first let WinXP install its default drivers, then once the crashig occured I installed the ATI drivers, and after more crashing, I even tried the ATI Omega drivers. Same problem under all three. I just finished a memtest to rule out my RAM, I don't think its a heat issue, if anything, its cooler in this room nowadays than normal.
Any info you need from me, let me know, but I need suggestions, not being able to kill Nazi's is driving me nuts

I did noticed one thing, I turned off Write Combining, whatever that is, and it seemed I could play for longer before a lockup occured. However a lockup still occured. Any ideas anyone?

off the top of my head, I'd say re-install all your motherboard drivers.

Unfortunely that didn't work. I re-installed all the newest drivers from Asus, but still about 45 seconds into Call of Duty 2, my whole machine locked and froze.
I really have no ideas left .. I will work on it for a while longer, but this weekend, if I can't get this working, I am gonna have to reformat and go back to Win2k.

aw, crap. I'm still thinking its something to do with drivers and the like since everything worked until you switched OS's. |
