Question regarding ATI Crossfire Cards

I have 2 ATI x850 Crossfire edition video cards and just installed them into my new setup, but am having issues with the monitor displaying anything.

Heres my question, I've seen a few pictures of of my video card with an external connector for the monitor. I believe its called an "External Dongle," although I am unsure.

Heres the image I am speaking of:

Now, I did NOT get one of these in either of my ATI x850 Crossfire packages. Are these required in order to properly display on a single monitor?

If they are required, I'm baffled to why one was not located within the package. If not, can someone help me properly set up the connectors for those specific cards to display on the monitor correcty?
