ATI fireGL 8800 vs. ATI Radeon 9600pro

I am using right now a ATI fireGL 8800 and a friend of mine has given me a ATI Radeon 9600 pro. I can't get MAYA 7 to work on my computer so i have been using MAYA6.0, my friend said this might fix the problem , but someone else told me that t5he 9600pro was a lower end graphics card and the one i have is better.

Anyone have any advice???

Why not try the 9600pro if you have it? It shouldn't take that much effort and you can compare it.

I don't know what a google would come up with as ATI fireGL 8800's are workbench cards i believe, the 9600pro is a gaming card(or was...now its not so gd)

The FireGL 8800 is basically a 8500...which isn't a very good card...I would use the 9600 pro...

Do you know of any sites that compare workbench cards with the normal main stream cards?

The recent FireGL cards generally match up to one of the main stream cards produced by ATi. For example, the FGL really isn't much more than a suped-up Radeon 8500. Considering the performance difference between the 8500 and 9600, there isn't much of a comparison.

If there is a matching FireGL card, it may be possible to hack the FGL drivers to work on the 9600. I'd suggest starting at the fora of Rage3D for help.
