Is ATI CrossFire worth getting right now? I heard it was unstable or something to that nature. Just curious to find out if it's worth investing into right now or hold off until later. Thanks.

Crossfire and SLI are both a waste of money IMO, i've read in a couple magazines that SLI was better though...

CF is *NOT* worth the investment ATM.... However though, as soon as they sort out all the issues I think it'll be much more appealing than SLI.... CF for the win!!!

SLI is a little more mature, but Crossfire had a better way to render the image...one that was more efficient...
Anyways, I agree woth lazyman...both are a complete waste of money...and unless you are a multimillionaire who doesn't care how much something costs, I don't reccomend it...

All right then in your opinions should I just get a regular motherboard that doesn't have SLI or CrossFire abilities? I'm just trying to get a handle on if it's worth it since I am going to get a Radeon X1900XTX and if either technology is not really worth it moneywise then why bother, right? Just want to plan for the future since if I go on another deployment in four months I will have extra money for another card anyway. That's one good thing about deploying.. the money and that's about it. |

The way I dealt with this problem is to get an SLI capable board, but only buy one vid card.
Later down the road when my vid card isn't quite as 'top of the line' and the price of my vid card goes down.. I'll consider buying the 2nd vid card for SLI.
It really depends on how well SLI is supported/optimized in games... but stll having the option for the SLI is a nice fallback. |

Ya, you could get a mobo that would support Crossfire if you want to get one X1900XTX...and in the future, there might be a small possibility of a master card for it being cheap...but 99% of the time, it will be better just to buy a single new card down the road...it will almost always be faster, cheaper, cooler, and less power consuming. |

All right I see where you're coming from. SLI boards support any cards right? And when you want to use the SLI feature you need to have a card that has SLI capablities. I guess I could just stick with my plan and get the X1900XTX and my SLI board. It makes no difference to me but it is a nice fall back. I'm a ATI fan so that's my basis for decisions anyway. Thanks. |

SLI boards do NOT necessarily support Crossfire.... Crossfire boards usually do support SLI.... To CF two ATI cards you need a CF-ready MoBo (i.e. Asus A8R32), a Master graphics card and an addtional CF-ready graphics card. To run SLI you need an SLI-ready MoBo and 2 SLI-ready (identical except for manufacturer) graphics cards...
My point: SLI =/= CrossFire (CF)... |

Just get a regular motherboard, IMO. Cheaper, at least. |
