Advice on Purchase 6800XT
My roommate is looking to upgrade his video card. He has a mobo with AGP, so that is a necessity. Looking for no more than $150 to spend.
I looked on newegg and found a Biostar 6800XT? 512MB 256bit AGP card for $150.

What do you guys think, for $150, would this be the best card for $150?
He just purchased a good powersupply so when he gets his video card, he wont have any power issues.
Thanks in Advanced!Intel Q6600, Intel DG965WH

Don't get a 512MB card...only the highest end ones(X1900XTX and 7900 GTX) can really use that much...on all the other cards, they just slap on 512MB of ram to get people to think its better...and 90% of the time the card actually runs SLOWER.
I would go for an X1600 Pro...

EXreaction, thanks for the response.
However, The X1600pro cards you listed there are only 128bit memory interface. The 6800XT has the 256bit interface.
His current specs on his computer are as followed:
XP2400
768MB Ram
GF4 TI4200
He wants a new video card, but knows that the rest of his specs will bottleneck his video performance... But playing with a TI4200 on some of the newer games such as CS:Source is not that enjoyable. He does prefer to stick to Nvidia though.Intel Q6600, Intel DG965WH

Well...if he wants to stick with nVidia, I would get a 6600 GT or a 6800(not XT...XT is the low end version)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814170082
This card will be great...and its about the same speed as a X1600 Pro(all around)...but I would really reccomend a ATI card for Source games...here is a benchmark on HL2...
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...pro/page10.asp
(the 6600 GT is a hair slower then the 6800...and the X1600 Pro is a hair slower then the X1600 XT)
And as you can see, the X1600 is way ahead in HL2...and if thats the main game, I highly reccomend the X1600 Pro(coming from an nVidia fan...I really would much rather have an nV card myself)"The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

6800GS if he can afford it =)
Beautiful piece of hardware, IF he can afford it, and IF he can find one =P
About 10% faster than a 6800GT, not to mention hella cooler =)

This card I just listed, will completely RAPE that 6800xt 512mb... even tho this only has 128mb memory, it is 256bit memory interface, and is not a Pipeline chopped 6800. You'll get 12 pipes with this card, vs the 8 pipes on a 6800xt.
There is a tiny chance you can unlock the 6800xt... But still... NO COMPETITION =PLast edited by Arclyte; May 16th, 2006 at 06:33 PM.
