| IS MY GRAPHICS CARD BOTTLENECKED ...PLZ HELP!!!! :(
This is the first time i have ever posted oin a forum so please dont grill me . Basicly i bought a new nvidia BFG 6800GS AGP card....and i am gettin rubbish fps. My freind has currently got a radeon 9800PRO and is getting better fps than me even though i have a better card, better ram and a better cpu. He may have a beter motherboard but could this cause the difference? One more problem is my Power supply does not meet the minimum specification of my graphics card but this dosn't make any difference to my fps...right?
my setup is currently:
BFG 6800GS 256MB AGP
1GB OF PC3200 RAM
2.5ghz pentimum 4
His setup is:
256MB RADEON 9800PRO
1.6 AMD ATALON PROCESSOR
768MB OF PC2100 RAM
Also changing my resolution or graphics settings in games like call of duty makes absoloutly no difference in my fps...this is why i feel my graphics card may be bottlenecked? i just need some expert advice so plz plz help moi.
thank you all in advance. |

Hey and Welcome To TechIMO!
Have you uninstalled your previous videocard's drivers?
Your videocard is a good match for the system, athlough some may say it is bottlenecked, it may be, but it won't be noticeable.
Do you have the latest drivers?

Thx alot for replying so quikly. Yes i have deleted all my old graphics drivers and what fps...on average...would you say my system should get on Call Of Duty...im wonderin wheather it is down to my powersuply or motherboard that is letting me down...would this affect my FPS? plus must it be bottlenecking my card...if when i choose a lower resolution my fps does not get lower or higher?
thank you |

With what washe said, also check on the side of your PSU the ampage for the 12v lines. Thats what counts really.
Also the athlon is better than your CPU in gaming, because its AMD and not intel...it gets kinda complicated .
IMO its either your drivers, or quite possibly your GPU not getting the juice it needs so having to run at slower speeds(i believe it can happen....). Other than that it could well be its over heating but that shouldn't bring down FPS just give you dots and stuff on your screen.
Oh, and BTW- Whats poor FPS for you? |

| | Oh now come on....
JUST because in general, Athlons score higher in gaming WHEN COMPARING SIMILAR SPEED CHIPS, Does NOT mean his friend's Athlon 1.6 is better than his Pentium 4 2.4...
he also has faster Ram, etc and a better v-card... Quote:

| yeah it gets complicated when you dont know how they work... |

yeah it gets complicated when you dont know how they work... | I was never saying anything about his RAM or GPU. As usual it seems you are making conclusions before you investigate them fully.
Of course his system should perform better than his friends, but that wasn't my point.
And seeing as this thread is all about gaming performance, its not an unfair assumption to say so.
Only thing i didn't think about was if its a 1900+....
BTW- Im assuming you know exactly the inner working of a CPU also.

Also, the old Athlons were not as good as the Pentium 4's back then.
Your Power Supply might actually be the problem. What brand, wattage, and amperes on the 12V rail is it? |

And I DO know the inner workings of most CPU's, and so would you, if you did a little ASK.com searching...
You should expect some flak when you post rubbish like that... |
