| Wide Screen LCD monitor not displaying correctly
Hi
Just FYI - I am not very techie, so forgive me if I use the wrong terminology, I'm trying:-)
The problem: I just installed a new wide screen LCD monitor but the screen is stretched out and I can't find much help in the troublshooter or manual.
Specs: BenQ FP202W, is supposed to be at a screen resolution of 1680x1050. I'm on Windows XP.
But - the information on the screen (text and windows) are wider than the actual screen. ie everything looks stretched out and the text is blurry, and the mouse scrolls wider to the side than the physical screen.
So Far:
- I tried different resolutions, which just changed the amount of screen that didn't fit. It's like the aspect ratio is off.
-I tried updating the driver (didn't help).
So I thought that maybe the video card wasn't compatible? I have a SiS 650 / 740 / 661FX / 741 / 760 series (that's what the device manager lists it as). But I'm a little stumped in figuring out if this is the problem or not?
Thanks for any suggesions |

You can go to www.sis.com and get the latest driver for Sis650 chipset. But anyway, this supports only a max of 1600x1200. I am also having the same problem, trying to find solution to get 1680x1050. Hope I can figure out something sooner.. |

aH! i FIGURED YOUR GRAPHICS CHIP DIDN'T SUPPORT THE NATIVE RESOLUTION OF THW MONITO(whoops!--caps lock), but you might try to downgrade the resolution in Display (Control Panal) to see if another resolution will work for you.
Also, this may not be so abnormal for a source that is NOT widescreen to either display with black bands on left and right side --which may be normal for a source that is4:3 aspect.
Also , see if you can find a resolution listed on some video card that accomadates a wider aspect. My guess is both of you will need new Video cards --or accept a display that is not widescreen.
And you still need a source--such as a DVD that is widescreen, or it might get stretched with certain resolutions.

PS. Try tiling the screen by splitting it into two seperate left n' right pages !

ps. Notice that 1600 X 1200 is 16 to 12, or 4 to 3.
While the resolution you gave as the monitors's is closer to 16 : 10 ?
But 1600 :1200 is an UXGA resolution, which means that you can devide it into four quadrants of 800 X 600, or halfs of 800 X 1200 (vertical), and 1600 X 600 (horizontal).

Hi
It was the video card. I used a friend's from her old machine, and then everything was working great - for a few hours. Then the next day the monitor stopped working completely. When I removed the new/used video card and plugged in my old monitor, it worked fine. I guess I have to shell out some cash for a new video card after all.
Thanks for the help! |

Thanks for the help! | I had the same issue trying to run 1680x1050 on my Samsung 205bw with a Sis650gx. I didn't want to buy a new card if possible. After extensive research I realized the Sis650 wasn't up to the task no matter what. I ended up buying a Evga geForce6600LE. This card runs the monitor no problem and it looks fantastic. |

The integrated SiS chipset does support this resolution. You need to update the driver, as advised above, and all shall be fine. |
