New graphics card but still crappy graphics
I have managed to get myself an nvidia 7600gs pci-e graphcs card. I have installed it all and it is working, butt he thing is, there doesn't seem to be much of an improvement graphics wie. I mean, i have just installed Silent Hill 3, and i can remember on my old Pc that the graphics were great and that was an older card, but conisderng this i meant to be a much better card, the graphics are very pixely and the edges are not smooth at all. Anyone know whats wrong?

Yeah i installed the driver which came on the cd, and in the game the only adjustements you can do are like what size you want it to be displayed.

I would see if you have latest of the following:
Latest Bios for your motherboard--is usually a number that flashes upon booting.
Chipset drivers for motherboard
Direct x 9c
Go to nvidia and download the latest drivers for the video card.
Latest Windows updates (i'm assuming your xp--i hope)
Just be warned this might not fix your issues but worth doing and should be done anyway.
Newer video cards need more powerful power supplies than the older cards did also.

The drivers with the cd are not always the latest.
Go to nvidia.com and get the 84.21 drivers and try them.

Just to let you know many games have files to make different adjustment settings.
They will be located in the directory where the games installed. Usually a notepad looking file.
Some are called "nameofgame.ini" so maybe "SilentHill3.ini"?
Make a copy of the original first just in case you mess it up--this way you can just overwrite the messed up file with the original again.

There is no file like that in the directory, but there is SH3config. When i click on that its the same old thing as in the game, it has the settings for Screen Mode, Rendering Resolution and Resolution. Also just changing the controls of the games and also realtime shadow and lensfalre quality which are both on high. I dont see why its still crappy graphics.

what do you mean?
By the way, the graphics in the game seem to be fine now, stil la bit pixely but im sure its cos its like 3 and a half years old. Anyway, my graphics on normal, like just viewing the internet or whatever, are still a little pastey and dont look great quality, Anyone know how i can change this??

When the new drivers are installed the settings are usually set to quality.
To double check your settings do this:
Right click on your desktop in an empty area, click properties, then the settings tab, check to see that it's at least 1024x768 and 32 bit.
If you need more advanced settings then hit advanced in that same area.

I see what you were saying now. Yes the quality will be a little blurrier than what you would expect. They are rendering a ton to make it look so realistic. Thats why they have all that fog there to help also. You can also try the rendering resolution at a lower figure to make things seem clearer. I find it default seems best for me. Is a very different and unusual game.

yah when i played i turned my resolution and up to 1280x1024 and the other res up to 1024x1024 and that did away with the jagged lines ... but i must say it is the best out o the bunch to me(2 is great 1 is awesome 4 yet to play)... and the fuzz effect i think is really cool

Some times I recommend to uninstall and reinstall the games. The games will detect optimal settings for your video card. If not then you must make the changes per game.
Nvidia has great flexibility for tweaking performance settings. Buy a more recent game to truly test your vid card......I recommend Team Fortress 2..it's only $29.99 and it tons of fun to play.
